How to Perform Umrah
Ihram is one of the basic steps when it comes to performing Umrah. The procedure of Ihram begins when you set your niyyah (intention) for Umrah. For that, you need to take a bath and then wear Ihram. With your head covered, offer two Rakat of Nafal. Now declare the intention to perform Umrah with uncovered head.
It is the second important step when you are going for Umrah. Tawaf means to move around Khana Kaaba seven times in counter-clockwise direction with respect. When the pilgrims arrive Kaaba then stop reciting talbiyyah. You must ensure that you are in wadu. During the Tawaaf, men need to uncover their right shoulder and this is called Idtibaa. When Tawaaf is completed then a pilgrim needs to proceed to Maqaam‐e Ibraaheem. Once you have completed your tawaaf then you need to go to Zamzam to drink water in standing position and recite a dua.
Sa’yee means to move around the Hills of Safa and Marwa besides Khana Kaaba 7 times. According to Sunnah, you have to perform sa’yee right after performing tawaf. You have to stay in your Ihram until sa’yee has been completed. You have to travel the entire area on your foot unless and until you have a very genuine excuse.
Shaving your head is the ultimate step for the completion of Umrah. Once sa’yee has been completed then you have to shave your hair by at least one inch so that you leave Ihram to complete your umrah. At this point, you are free from any kind of restriction because by the grace of Almighty Allah you have completed your Umrah. You can wear your regular clothes and if you plan to perform another Umrah then you have to enter into the boundary of haram and again enter into Ihram.
